The Best Way To Promote Industrial Web Sites Using Search Engines

By Conrad Bailey

Without targeted traffic, it doesn’t matter how nicely designed your site is… because if its lacking traffic nobody is going to see it. That’s the purpose of this article - to generate ongoing highly targeted traffic to your site every day, all year long.

Promoting your company on the Internet comes down to one thing: Having a website that gets quality traffic. I don’t think I need to get into the importance of having a website. Without one, promoting your products and qualifying prospects via the Web will be that much more difficult, and unnecessarily I may add.

By far, the most effective method for manufacturers and industrial suppliers to promote their website on the Internet is through search engines, preferably via natural search results. In a moment I’ll show you one of the best ways to do that.

The Truth About So-Called Search Engine Experts

With the ever changing platforms, criteria’s and technical advances search engines often go through, nobody really is an expert on the subject, despite what they may claim. However, there is obviously one exception… that being the decision makers or shall I say top brass of the major search engines themselves like Google, Yahoo, MSN, etc. In reality, they are the only ones, and I repeat the only ones that really know what the next big ‘update’ or changes that will take place. In fact, IMO, keeping you guessing always works to their advantage, and has actually spawned a number of online forums and blogs related to the next “updates”. Makes you wonder doesn’t it?

There are two major ways to start a search engine campaign as part of your marketing arsenal. You can do it on your own, or you can hire a company or SEO specialist to do it for you. It depends on what you want to do, but one thing I’ll point out is for the most part, an SEO specialist is not much different than hiring a competent employee to do the same work - but at a much lower rate of course, and better still with more control on your end.

Sure, SEO firms will tell you how they know all the “secrets” for getting your site at the top of search engines. They’ll claim they have the inside scoop on what really works in the world of search engines, and so on. But the fact of the matter is, their so-called secrets can be easily discovered and often improved on. After all, this is the information age, where information on every imaginable subject is available right now on demand. Do you think SEO’s are the only ones that know the “secrets” of getting a high search engine page ranking? Of course not, and I’ll leave it at that.

Relevant Content Or Information Overload?

If there was one method I can give you about promoting your site via search engines, it would be the critical matter of applying the right KEYWORDS integrated flawlessly into your site’s pages. Not only in the meta tags such as the title and description (yes, many search engines still look at the meta tags). But more importantly, the keywords must be embedded naturally throughout the page. The more those keywords are used on the page, in a natural manner of course, the higher ranking it will get in search engines. Sure, there are a number of other factors that increase the ranking of a page, but few if any is as important as using the proper keywords.

However, that does not mean one should repeat the keywords on your pages just to get a higher placement. Search engines don’t like to be tricked, and they are getting smarter every day. So if you think some page full of keywords not properly presented is a good idea. You better think again. It doesn’t work that way with the top search engines - anymore. And I must say, thankfully so for us ethical writers.

Using keywords on your web pages in proper syntax will double and even triple its effectiveness to be found higher on search engines. That is nothing new to most people who are “Internet marketing savvy,” but yet, the majority of web sites, especially industrial related sites are still stuck in the virtual dark ages of frames, flash and gif files. That is, they create websites based more on visual appeal and complex layouts and less on relevant keywords. Therefore, their results suffer. Search engines love to crawl and index keyword content. Yet, they rebuff and sometimes totally ignore web pages that are too full of images, graphics and multifaceted formats that are too difficult for a search engine’s bot to crawl effectively.

The point is, search engines are in a constant battle with other directories to provide the most relevant searches, faster, easier, and more accurate than their competitors. As a result, indexing keywords on a web page is by far the most effective way they can do this. In fact, I’ve recently learned even search engines that have the capability to convert images, banners and other graphics, still prefer keyword rich content. That is because people using search engines want information relevant to their search, not some flashy graphics showing off someone’s web design skills.

Indeed, building relevant keyword web pages takes a lot of time and effort. Maybe you lack the time necessary, maybe you don’t. Whatever the case, you’ll be glad to know having someone else write these pages is not only less work you’ll have to do, but it’s actually the more effective and less costly choice, and I’ll tell you why.

So You Don’t Have Time To Write Articles?

The best way to produce dozens of keyword relevant pages every month, is through the efforts of a qualified partner, and on a mutually beneficial basis. And the fastest and easiest way to do this is through publishers, authors, and industry experts. These people are capable and willing to provide you with articles, reports, excerpts, features and other content relevant to your industry free-of-charge. Resulting in you building dozens and even hundreds of pages bursting with relevant keywords. Now that could generate some serious traffic for a long time to come.

Don’t thing you can find any writers? There are plenty of publishers and writers that distribute information or news focusing on your industry. They could be anybody from big magazine publishers and small newsletter writers to engineers or other technical professionals that want to submit an article or perhaps a white paper. The point is, all of them have one thing in common, they all want and need publicity, so they can connect with their target audience. You can help them do that by offering free space on your website to post their informative articles at no cost.

Remember, when you find an author, make sure their publication or the industry they write about targets the same or similar audience that you do. Ideally, you want them to provide exclusive content. Unique and relevant content is by far the most important aspect to generate the best possible ROI, even if that investment is just time. Personally, I’d rather publish one exclusive article than a hundred articles that are available on other sites. I can almost guarantee I’ll get ten times the traffic from the unique article.

Lastly, always include the author’s name and URL link as the source of the article so they get the credit and are rewarded for providing you and your audience with such valuable information. Linking out to the original source will further increase the page’s ranking. In return, everyone benefits and that’s what we all want.
